2008 Porsche 997 Twin Turbo restoration:
I think what makes this project so interesting is the client, who
purchased this car new. He brought it to us in the first weeks he
owned it to upgrade the audio system, install an integrated
custom radar system, install a TechArt exhaust system and to
apply paint protection film. We serviced it periodically and saw it
‘grow up.’ Then, after nearly 10 years of ownership, the client
decided he liked it enough to keep it forever…but he wanted to
make some changes. So, we did some things!
We restored the body and fully repainted and changed the color.
He and his wife and I spent a snowy Saturday rifling through color
samples and then, over the following week, deliberating on which
of the favorites to go with. He decided on my pick, which was a
Porsche 918 color: Liquid Metal Silver. To the body, we added
some TechArt aero bits at the bumpers and rocker panels and a
new TechArt spoiler/wing. After the paintwork was completed, we
added vinyl racing stripes that we designed specifically for the
997.
This was a restoration process, however. All new lamps, moldings,
seals and various bits were obtained from Porsche to render the
exterior fully fresh and new.
Worn leather and carbon trim bits on the interior were also
replaced. We replaced the seat upholstery covers and foam pads,
threshold plates, steering wheel, shifter and hand brake, etc. While
we were at it, we added a B & M short-shift linkage to improve
the driving experience. Lastly on the interior, Rennline adjustable
pedal overlays were installed.
997 radiators are notoriously leak-prone, so they were replaced.
The brake calipers were serviced and painted. As a finishing touch
to the new exterior look, HRE wheels and fresh rubber were
chosen and installed.
To protect the new exterior finish, ceramic coating & PPF was
applied. And of course we added an updated radar system, the
Escort Max Ci 360. This 997 may be a decade old, but to the
owner, it’s like a new car again
